I'm running for City Council in District 4 because I care deeply about Chelsea and want to help our community thrive. After living here for the past twelve years, I've seen firsthand the challenges and the potential in this city. I first moved to Chelsea as a renter and quickly fell in love with its diversity, spirit and sense of community. In 2017, after over a year of searching and several unaccepted offers, I was finally able to buy a home here - a proud moment and no small feat in a market of rising costs. But I was determined to put down roots in the place I knew I wanted to call home.
In 2021, I began my formal service to Chelsea by joining the Licensing Commission, bringing with me over 20 years of management experience in the hospitality industry. I was honored to be elected Chair by my fellow commissioners in 2022 and have continued to serve in that role each year since. It's given me valuable insight into how our city operates and where we can do better.
During the last election cycle in 2023, I was struck by the amount of litter and neglect I saw in our neighborhoods while out knocking on doors. I reached out to a friend involved in the Chelsea Hill Community group, which had been active before the pandemic but had since quieted. Together, we helped relaunch the group in December 2023. Since then, we've organized citywide cleanups and safety walks, connecting with residents who care as much about Chelsea as I do. I'm proud to serve as the lead organizer of this revitalized effort to promote civic pride and neighborly action.
One of my top priorities is improving communication between residents and City Hall. Too many people feel unheard or left without follow-up when they ask for help. At the same time, there are incredible programs and resources offered by the city that often go unnoticed. I want to bridge the gap and make sure everyone has access to the information that they need to thrive.
I come from a working-class background and began my career after graduating from a vocational high school where I studied culinary arts. I've lived on my own since I was 18, working my way up through the restaurant industry. I understand the stress of rising costs and the need for real solutions - especially around affordable housing. I believe that we need to prioritize not just affordable rental options but also paths to homeownership so more people can build lasting futures here.
Over the years, people have told me that I have a servant's heart - something that has served me well in hospitailty and now drives my desire to give back through public service. I'm ready to use that heart, along with my experience and determination, to make a difference in our great little city.
If we haven't met yet, I hope to see you soon on the campaign trail - and I would be honored to earn your vote in the Preliminary Election on September 16th.
